Meet Jane

Jane is the Registered Manager of two of Potens’ services in the North West of England, Walmerlsey Road & Arbury House. Here she talks about her development journey in care.

“I started working at Potens in August 2008, at the Bury service working with young adults with High Functioning Asperger’s.
I have been fortunate to have worked with a wide variety of professionals over the years both internally and externally, such as Positive Behaviour Support, Speech and Language, and many others.

When I started at Potens, I already had the training that was required for the post, so the organisation looked at what other training they could provide to widen my knowledge base.  I have since completed numerous courses such as performance management and quality assurance to name some. I have also developed my skills by working on company policies and procedures and attended steering groups, such as the Autism group to share knowledge and experiences.

Whilst managing 267 Walmersley road we have worked closely with the National Autistic Society (NAS) to gain accreditation, and through the hard work and dedication from the team and people we support we have held it for 1o years and will be working towards our 4 assessment with them.

A few years ago I started to support the Area Manager and the staff team at one of our Rochdale services, in the absence of a manager, which later became a more permanent arrangement. I enjoy the difference of the two services, one being residential and the other supported living and am fortunate to have a dual registration with CQC.

Whilst I can’t see myself working in a different field in the care sector, I still enjoy learning about other fields. I have recently enrolled on a Forensic Psychology course which I am enjoying and hopefully will be able to put some of the knowledge I have gained into practice.”
