Kris’ Story – my decade of development

We continue with our stories to mark Career Development Month, this time with Kris, who has recently celebrated his 10th year of working at Potens.

Kris said: “I began my Potens Journey in September 2011 as a Waking Night Support Worker. At the time I hadn’t considered that I would want to progress my career. However, in 2012 I began helping with some additional tasks for the service.

With a lot of positive encouragement from a manager who saw the potential in me, and a strong personal development plan, I left the permanent nights behind, moved over to days and progressed to a Senior Support Worker – successfully landing the role in 2013.

I remained a Senior for 5 years with my next goal of becoming a Deputy Manager set within my development plan. In 2018 this opportunity arose within our service and I was successful with my interview.

As I continuously grew, learned and developed I was able to play a key role in driving the service forward and with a lot of support from the company, the former service coordinator and the staff team.

It is now my privilege to be the Service Coordinator at Highgate House where I have recently celebrated my 10th Year of service with Potens. I have learned so much, met a lot of amazing people and feel like I have made a difference to the lives of the People We Support throughout this journey.

I would say to anyone who is unsure about their own personal and professional development – it is more than possible at Potens and extremely rewarding!”
