Andrew was a patient at Highbury hospital for 18 months until moving into Potens’ Newbold Road at the end of March 2019. His staff team have shared his story…
“In preparation for Andrew moving into to Newbold Road, the staff team completed 8 weeks transition work, visiting the hospital twice a week and including training bespoke to Andrew.
Through the transition, we learnt that Andrew could self-isolate himself and withdraw to his bedroom for several days at a time, and would not engage with peers or his support team. Andrew had only left the hospital twice in 18 months.
When Andrew moved in, within the first hour he had unpacked his belongings, personalised his bedroom and was engaging with peers and his support team!
Andrew has been out in the local community every day since moving in, enjoys going shopping for his meals, has visited the hairdresser, has enjoyed a day at Matlock Farm Park and has had an evening at a local disco, where he danced the evening away!
Andrew calls his mum every evening to tell her how happy he is in his new home. “
