Philip, who lives at Heathfield Gardens in Derbyshire, has landed his dream job – working in his local coffee shop and he is loving every minute!
Manager Ana Beja, explains: “It’s always been a dream of Philips to work in a coffee shop and following some person centred planning with him we have been exploring his options. So when the Zoo Glamour Coffee Shop opened across the road we thought that might be a good place for Philip to start his work experience.”
The café has actually turned out to be the perfect setting for Phil to turn his dream into a reality.
“We went a few times to the coffee shop and were always very welcomed by the owner and her family. One day we supported Philip to approach the owner, Paige, about the idea of him gaining a work experience placement. Paige was delighted with the idea and straight away booked a job interview with Philip to get to know him and find out what he would like to do as part of his role at the café.”
Philip was supported through this process by his Key Worker Jemma Clarke and Ana – getting him prepped and ready for the interview and supporting at the session. Soon after he was offered a placement to attend every Wednesday and is delighted!
“Philip started work in March and is loving it. He goes every week, helping to clear tables, clean, support with all tasks and has got to know Paige and her family really well. He is always excited and looking forward to Wednesday afternoons.”
His new role has made Philip more fulfilled -proud to be taking part in a meaningful activity that is increasing his skills and experiences.
“We believe this job experience will also have a positive impact on his self-esteem and confidence.” adds Ana. “Well done Philip!”
