There were lots of conversations on Thursday for Time to Talk Day. ️
At Achieve With Us the people we support, alongside the staff sat and chatted about their feelings.
Deputy Manager Louise said “We jotted down our thoughts in the books and discussed how it is ok not to be ok. We discussed things that can help us with our feelings and enjoyed catching up with each other.”
Orme House set up board game stations for everyone to come along, play, interact and talk.
Manager Katie said “This was a great way to get a conversation going and talk to each other about different things. ️ We had such a fun interactive day. We also enjoyed some afternoon tea with sandwiches and home baked cakes made by Kev which were delicious. It was nice to see lots of laughter and smiles all round.”
Walker Heights had lots of games set up that were donated by manager Sarah and purchased from local Chairty shops to give back to their community.
Sarah said “We had a great day filled with lots of games and using our conversation starters. The event went on for a couple of hours and it was nice to see everyone come together and enjoy each other’s company. There was lots of conversations around mental health and the importance of checking in on each other. Everyone enjoyed light refreshments and the games and some even got a little competitive. A successful event we will hold again!”
Deputy Manager at Middleton Lodge, Paige said “We had our Time to Talk Day with our conversation starters which quickly broke the ice and got everyone talking. The staff all went around the table and told each other what they appreciated about one another. It was lovely to listen to and I for one became emotional. We talked about how the stigma of men’s mental health and how some males find it difficult to speak up and why. It was a great afternoon and staff have asked if we can make it a monthly thing as it has got them all talking and opening up which has had a positive impact on their mental health.”
At Highgate House, activities lead Cath arranged a great event encouraging the people we support and staff to ‘Talk it Out’! ️
Manager Kris said “Everyone was invited to play our much-loved Snakes and Cakes game which includes mental health conversation starter cards. There were plenty of resources to get the conversations going and highlight the importance of mental health. We had a great turn out and a surprise appearance from ‘Spiderman’ (Support worker Pep) to help keep people chatting and have a giggle. ️ One of our wellbeing leads Gloria spent the day checking in with staff individually about mental health and wellbeing in the workplace. There was such a buzz in the air, everyone really benefited from the day!”
