In June we opened the doors to our brand new specialist independent school and college, Arbour House, based in Weymouth. Welcoming future pupils, their families, professionals and commissioning partners, the day was a chance for our team to showcase the new facility which has been set up to meet local demand for flexible education and employment opportunities in Dorset.
Arbour House School and College, Potens’ unique venture, will offer children, young people and adults with complex needs, such as autism and learning disabilities a bespoke and personalised educational provision set within the students local community.
Potens’ Director of Operations, Lisa Alcorn said, “This is a unique service that we are offering to students, families and the local community. Our vision is to offer ‘bespoke’, ‘creative’ services where our students can ‘aspire’ to be the best they can be with life skills and strategies that help them move on throughout their lives as independently as possible.”
Arbour House’s first open day was a huge success, supported by many professionals and families, including children and young people themselves.
Lisa continues: “The feedback that we have received today demonstrates that our vision meets local needs but also offers additional creative services where children, young people and adults thrive. We are excited to see what our school and college can achieve.”
The day also provided a platform for our stakeholders to meet our team and to showcase the range of our transitional services Potens offers in the region; from domiciliary family support, holiday clubs, and short breaks to childcare and adult residential services.
“We have listened to the voices of families and professionals in Dorset and we are committed to developing services that meet needs. The launch of our new service, Arbour House, is the next step on this exciting journey.” Lisa adds.
