The Willows is located in the town of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, including a respite service.
The home is a 3 bed ground floor bungalow, fully accessible for wheelchair users. There is shared wet room and communal lounge/dining area. The home has recently been redecorated throughout and made very homely. The home has a large back garden which has a wheelchair accessible ramp. The garden has greenhouse where service users have grown vegetables and fruits. The garden has plenty of room, in warmer months we use it for BBQs, games, pool, sensory activities etc.
The town is surrounded by beautiful coastline and countryside. The town has a shopping centre, supermarkets, library, Churches, Mosques, Leisure Centre, Restaurants, Country Parks and a Fairground.
We aim to provide a high quality care and support for adults with LD/PD and complex needs, promoting independence, choice and a great quality of life. We ensure that the home is suitably adapted every person that stays here, ensuring suitable equipment per individual needs and adequate staffing. Staff have specialist training to support people with a range of needs including complex needs i.e., PEG, epilepsy/rescue medication. Due to the vulnerability of the people who stay here, we do not provide respite for individuals with challenging behaviour.
We aim to go the extra mile to support service users and their families with respite, accommodating specific dates/emergencies where we can, working with agencies to provide positive outcomes for people needing respite, supporting with transport/CST and health appointments at families/social worker’s request whilst individual is staying with us, providing extra staffing for activities when required, or adjusting staffing hours to provide evening and weekend activities. We ensure each service user has person centred care and support in line with their choices/interests. We want to ensure the experience is as enjoyable and relaxed for service user, and family/carers, whilst using respite at The Willows.
Service users may also join residents from our other homes for day trips/activities where we feel that they have similar interests, to make new friends.
