The Ivy

The Ivy is located in the town of Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The home is a 4 bed ground floor bungalow, it is a new build which is fully furnished with a homely décor and fully accessible for wheelchair users. There is shared wet room, and 2 bedrooms have en-suite. There is a communal lounge/dining area. The home has a large area out the back of the property that I plan to develop into a sensory sitting area this year.

The town is surrounded by beautiful coastline and countryside. The town has a shopping centre, supermarkets, library, Churches, Mosques, Leisure Centre, Restaurants, Country Parks and a Fairground.

We aim to provide a high quality care and support for adults with LD/PD and complex needs, promoting independence, choice and a great quality of life. Staff have specialist training to support people with a range of needs including those with complex needs i.e., PEG, epilepsy/rescue medication.

We ensure that the home is suitably adapted to the people that live there, and that we look at the group living aspect in that all residents are suitable to live together and get along.

Due to the vulnerability of our current residents, we do not provide placements for individuals with challenging behaviour.

We have a core staff team who have been working in the home since open. Staff supported with all of the residents’ transitions and feedback has been brilliant from families – staff have had many compliments. Staff have very good understanding of the residents needs and they are enthusiastic about making a difference.

Staff have supported one resident, who is a wheelchair user, to run the race for life in her late mother’s memory. Another resident wanted to develop his IT and maths skills so staff supported him to attend maths and computer classes independently. We have supported another young lady to go swimming after many years of not being able to go.
