Liane is one of Potens’ wellbeing leads and a senior support worker at a specialist mental health residential service in Preston. Here she tells us all about her career development and the opportunities available to her at Potens.
“I have been employed within the company for three years. During that time, Potens has provided me with the opportunity to progress in a way that allows me to further my career and develop myself as a person.
I began as a support worker and recently become a part time senior. Whilst being in these roles, I have requested that should any opportunities arise where I can develop skills in other areas, that I be considered.
I have since took on the Wellbeing Lead role, completed an NVQ Level 3 in Lead Care Work and have enrolled on to Level 5. I feel that opportunities are regularly provided for those who wish to and those who do not, to stretch and challenge themselves and to also grow as a person.
Having taken on the Wellbeing Lead role, my confidence has grown. I have discovered that I am able to help bridge some of the necessary gaps within my team. I do not feel that I would have taken such a positive approach to the importance of wellbeing amongst our working teams, had this not been for my pro-active managers completing good skills matching and setting me up with such a challenge with my team and with myself.
Having an open-door policy and filtering the Potens values throughout, I have felt massively supported with both professional and personal issues and a person-centred approach has always been evident. Due to working in organisations where this has not been present, I whole heartedly appreciate this approach and the effort that is put in to make our work place a happier environment and help me have a better working day.”
