New to the care sector and previously a firefighter, Jason began his career at Potens in March 2017 as a support worker. Now a Team Leader at our Oakleigh service in Devon, here he tells us all about his care development journey.
“I started with Potens on 23rd March 2017 at Oakleigh as a support worker, I found the work challenging, but very rewarding and quickly learned about how to support the individuals at Oakleigh. There is a vast amount of information to digest from care plans all the way to Positive Behaviour Support.
In February 2021 I was fortunate enough to complete my NVQ level 3 in health and social care and with a lot of hard work and determination over the last 2 years I was awarded a Merit. In July 2019 the service needed another senior support worker, I applied and was successful. I mentored other staff members and gave advice and support where needed.
I like a challenge and I feel I adapted to the role quickly. My dedication and hard work has not gone unnoticed and in August 2021 I applied and was successful to be appointed to Team Leader.
I am very proud of my achievements and in April 2022 I will be starting my PBS Diploma.
It is fair to say that I had not considered care work before, but with the hard work from myself and the team it is so rewarding to see the people we support progress with their independence and new skills that they learn.”
