Heather’s Incredible 14 year Progress at Roman Park 🏡🌟

Heather has made incredible progress since moving to Roman Park in 2010 as a temporary placement but 14 years later Heather is happy to still call Roman Park her home. 🏡🧡

Staff member Liz said “When Heather moved to Roman Park, she was very reluctant to participate in everyday living skills or activities and struggled to engage with the other people living at Roman Park. Over time, Heather gained more confidence and began to develop new skills, helping with daily living tasks around the house. In addition to this by building on her confidence, Heather began to try new things and started a voluntary position at the Mind shop in Syston. 👏 This began as one day a week and Heather was feeling so confident and happy doing this that she increased her role to two days a week. Heather also returned to her horse riding, which she has always loved and is very important to her. 🐎 Since being at Roman Park, Heather has also discovered a passion for painting which she regularly enjoys now and feels that this is beneficial in helping her to relax. 🎨🖌️ Each week Heather now attends college completing an independent living course and a weekly Friendship Group in Syston which enables her to maintain a strong social network, which Heather feels is very important for her. 💛 Since being at Roman Park, Heather’s relationship with her Mum has also improved. Heather’s main goal which she is working towards at the moment is to develop her skills around managing her finances and budgeting. We are so proud of how far Heather has come in her time at Roman Park and look forward to supporting her in meeting her goals over the next few years.”😊

Heather said, “I am a very happy person. I maintain my independent living skills, such as cooking (my favourite meal to cook is spaghetti Bolognese!) 🍝, gardening and attending my own appointments. Before 2010 I was struggling to build my confidence and now I feel I can continue onwards with everyday living skills and even try new things in future.” 🙌

An amazing positive support outcome for Heather, well done for all your hard work on developing your skills and confidence. 👏 We hope you are very proud of yourself as we are all very proud of you. 😊

Well done to all the staff at Roman Park for supporting Heather over the last 14 years in supporting her skills development and meeting her goals. 🌟

We are so happy that you are enjoying your routine each week attending work, college, your local friendship group and helping with the daily living tasks in your home! 🏡

You have done incredibly well in developing your confidence and securing your voluntary role at the Mind shop in your community. 👏

We are excited to see your continued development at Roman Park. 🧡
