Since moving to Paxton House in December 2022, staff have been learning the many ways in which Lydia communicates as she is non-verbal.
Manager Liz said “We have been working in partnership with the local IST (Intensive Support Team) who have been supporting Lydia and her staff team to enhance her communication. They created Lydia a picture book with some of her favourite things, places, people, activities and foods to provide Lydia with choices and to help her communicate this more effectively with us. We use the book daily to ensure we keep Lydia involved in all aspects of her daily routine and to respect her wishes. Lydia now enjoys using her book and the personalised nature of it. Staff have found the book a very effective tool to help aid in communication with Lydia. We will continue to add to her book as her likes and preferences change and develop”.
Developing individuals’ communication skills is an important part of the support our team provides at Paxton House and has been enhanced with support from IST, providing a positive outcome for Lydia and the team.
