Staff and people supported at Avondale in Redcar hosted a coffee morning last week as part of Mental Health Awareness Day and it was a huge success.
Regional Director Kerry Wright said: “We host a coffee morning every few months but really wanted to make this one more inclusive, so with support from staff, some of our residents sent flyers out to family, friends and neighbours to invite them into their home for a special coffee morning to mark Mental Health Awareness Day.”
On the run up to the day residents were busy getting ready for the event – making flowers and cards, baking cakes and preparing the tables. To do their bit in promoting Mental Health Awareness Day the team also printed key information about Mental Health for display in the service.
Kerry adds: “The morning was a real success, with family and friends attending, and we were really delighted that our neighbours joined us too! Neighbours gave really positive feedback about the day, the staff team, how pleased they were to be invited and told us how it was great that we were encouraging the people we support to be a real part of their community. And what’s even more amazing is our neighbours’ offers of assistance with further arts and crafts opportunities!”
With the event being such a huge success the team are now underway planning their next coffee morning which will be amalgamated with a special Christmas Craft Fair which is being organised with their neighbours!
