Day in the life of a Support Worker…
“My name’s Carol and I’d always wanted to work in the care industry but I didn’t know if it was for me. In 2014 I got an opportunity to work at Potens and I’ve never looked back.
My shifts vary including day and evening work. Today I start at 8am, I’ll get a handover from the staff that are already there and then it’s on with my day!
Today I’m supporting Claire. This morning we are going food shopping, then this afternoon I’ll support her to go swimming. Before we head out I’ll support her with her medication, to tidy up and to put her washing on.
My role is to encourage Claire to increase her skills and independence by supporting her to do as much as she can for herself. It’s about building her confidence, whilst keeping her safe at home and in the community.
