Sarah began her career at Potens in 2013 as a part time support worker. Now Deputy Manager at our Highgate House service, here she tells us all about her care development journey.
I started with Potens in May 2013 at Highgate House as a part time support worker completing two days a week – this was my second job as I was also a teaching assistant at the time.
In November 2015 the service needed another senior support worker so myself and a previous part time worker took on the role as a job share between us both.
There were a few changes within the team – but I retained my position as part time senior support worker for 16 hours a week until February 2021, where I decided it was time to progress and develop to a higher role and support the service that had need for a deputy manager. I increased my contracted hours to full time and took on the role as Acting Deputy.
I like a challenge and I feel I adapted to the role quickly. I gained a lot of good feedback about how well I was doing. In September 2021 I interviewed successfully for the full Deputy role to where I am now.
I am very proud of my achievements and compliments from others and was happy to have received a recognition nomination that was sent through to the regional conference awards at the end of September 2021. It is fair to say that I had not considered moving to higher roles previously but having been given this opportunity I am so glad that I have.
