Huge congratulations to Potens’ Support Worker, Justyna Karbowska, who was named Care Home Worker of the Year at the Towergate Care Award 2016 finals in recognition of the ‘dedication, commitment and loyalty’ she has given to the individuals she supports in Wallasey, Merseyside.
Justyna joined 24 finalists to attend the glittering awards ceremony at The Berkeley Hotel in London on Thursday 10th March 2016. The event was hosted by comedy actress Sally Phillips (well known for her roles as Bridget Jones’ friend and Tilly from Miranda) who presented Justyna with her much deserved award.

Justyna was shortlisted from 300 other care workers across the UK as one of the three finalists in the category of Care Worker of the Year: going on to win the award.
Justyna provides intensive support to three individuals who have learning disabilities and complex health needs in Wallasey, Merseyside. Like all Potens’ services, the team there takes a person centred approach; encouraging independence for each person and focussing on outcomes for each individual supported.
Dave Andrews, Potens’ Area Manager, who attended the award ceremony with Justyna says: “I am delighted that Justyna has been recognised for this award. She has a fantastic connection with the other staff and is very supportive and encouraging of all the people who live there.”
Nominated by the managers, staff and individuals she supports, judges commended Justyna’s hard work, commitment, compassion and loyalty, and for going above and beyond in her role.
Dave explains: “Justyna has taken on a more senior role over the last 12 months, being promoted from Support Worker to Acting Senior and has taken on management responsibilities as a result, demonstrating fantastic skills in this area for a first time senior position.”
Justyna has worked in what has been an increasingly difficult 12 month period for the service with lots of changes taking place: including one individual who was admitted to hospital.
“Justyna has not only worked in partnership with professionals to support the changes, but has provided emotional support and encouragement for each service user, as well as having a fantastic connection with the staff team she works with.” Dave adds.
In recognition of her hard work, commitment, compassion and loyalty, in what has been a difficult 12 months for everyone linked to Somerville: the management team, service users, families and staff at Potens are delighted that Justyna has been recognised for this award.
