Bradley’s Story to More Independent Living

Goodbye to Bradley at 185 Watling Street Road, as he starts his new pathway to more independent living! 👏

Manager Anne-Marie said “Goodbye and good luck to our Bradley button! 2 years ago, you joined us and what fun it has been, you have built confidence in so many areas helping you move forward, made friends for life and left us with so many memories with your peers and staff. You will always be part of the 185 family, but now it’s time for you to progress on your own independent pathway, we will miss you at 185!” 🌟

Bradley moved to 185 Watling Street Road in October 2021, whilst Bradley has been with us, he has progressed well with staff support. When Bradley arrived, he was a quiet individual and appeared nervous and shy. Bradley required support to attend all appointments and needed staff support to advocate for himself.

It was felt Bradley had poor insight into his diagnosis and would need a high level of support to maintain this and his living skills, therefore Bradley was catered for and needed a high level of assistance to complete everyday tasks. Bradley had not been able to maintain his relationships within his family and those relationships had broken down.

Whilst Bradley lived at 185, he was encouraged to spend time on 1-1 with staff within the community and with peers in the house partaking in house-based activities. This built on Bradley’s confidence and developed good, strong, trusting relationships and skills. Initially Bradley was supported with his living skills, devising a daily planner with staff to help structure his days and cooked with staff regularly. At the time of moving on Bradley was able to keep his living space clean, shop independently, meal plan and cook complex dishes.

Bradley’s ability to develop relationships improved with him making friendships in the house and repairing those with family. His relationships within the house were always settled and he was a well-liked member at 185, developing friendships he will take forward in his future.

Bradley’s confidence grew whilst being supported at 185 and he accessed college and completed a plastering, tiling and a painting and decorating course and secured himself a volunteer position in 2 local charity shops.

During this time Bradley managed to have his driving licence reinstated and saved up enough money to purchase himself a car allowing him to build on his independence further.

With the incredible progress Bradley made at 185, he has chosen to move in with his uncle who he has a strong relationship with. Their relationship has always been good, and his uncle has always staunchly supported Bradley and will continue to do so.

Well done to everyone at 185 for supporting Bradley into developing those vital living and socialisation skills to increase his confidence and independence, creating such a positive outcome for Bradley! 👏🙌

We wish him all the best for his future! 💛 💙
