As part of Addiction Awareness Week (2023) Potens UK are celebrating staff and people we support (PWS) who have bravely faced or are facing addiction during their lives.
Below details the journey for a wonderful man who resides at Heath Lodge in Warrington who initially moved in on a respite basis.
When Z arrived it was clear he had been self neglecting and was heavily dependent on alcohol. Z would consume 2 bottles of red wine each day and on some occasions had drank 3, the staff team were faced with some difficult challenges, not only through behaviours that challenge but also it was proving very difficult to administer prescribed medications.
Z was very reluctant to engage with services and declined any offers made for support however over time and with support from staff Z began to trust and develop professional relationships, over a period of months Z has reduced his alcohol intake and now Z is only consuming one bottle of wine per day, on some days Z won’t drink at all.
As a team we have seen significant changes, Z is willing to engage more with staff, Z has saved some money through not buying as much alcohol, increased diet intake and all prescribed medications are now administered.
Z has come a long way with the support from everyone at Heath Lodge and we are very proud of him.
