Joanne moved into Potens’ Larwood House in Nottingham just before Christmas 2018. She had lived in a wheelchair and lounge chair for several years and not walked or been out of her previous property for a long time.
Joanne was slightly withdrawn when she first transitioned to Larwood House and would not go out at first. Slowly she began to engage with staff and increase her confidence and now there is no stopping her! Staff worked at her own pace, providing encouragement and building up a rapport with her.
Julie Roberts, Service Manager, explains: “As an example today Joanne went out on a bus to the lunch club with staff and another resident Pam. She had lunch and played bingo – winning the game too! Joanne is really finding her feet, and building her confidence with her mobility.”
This a huge achievement for Joanne who with lots of patience and support from a consistent staff team is now enjoying going out for the first time over 10 years.”
