Special Olympics GB 2019

Potens are proud official supporters of Special Olympics GB – supporting the largest year-round, all ability, sports programme in Great Britain which supports over 10,000 athletes with learning disabilities. Potens teams across the UK are busy making their 2019 plans as an official supporter with a host of activities and events planned for the coming months.

Potens Chairman, John Farragher, said:
“We are proud to be official sponsors of the Special Olympics GB which gives people with learning disabilities a platform to show off their sporting talents and to be recognised for their achievements. In 2019 our plans are to utilise this opportunity to further embrace and promote the healthy living, active lifestyles and mental wellbeing of both those we support in our services and our staff teams up and down the country.”

Potens are setting teams and individuals supported up and down the UK a ‘wellbeing challenge’ in an aim to get people active and increase their involvement in sport and activities over the coming year.

This promotion is ahead of the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games, this year being held in United Arab Emirates in March.

John adds: “I am delighted to announce that I will be attending the games this year in Abu Dhabi – the first place in the Middle East-North Africa Region to be host of a Special Olympics World Games. I feel honoured to be part of this fantastic cause and and look forward to helping raise awareness of the upcoming event.

Across, England, Scotland and Wales, Special Olympics GB runs approximately 27,000 regular sports coaching sessions, delivered locally each year by 140 accredited programmes across 28 different sports. Special Olympics GB relies on funding and support from individuals, corporates and charitable trusts & foundations like Potens. This support is crucial to sustain their amazing work and for their successful growth to reach every adult and child with a learning disability through sport.
