My Story – Gill

Following the success of our #30Stories30People initiative last month to celebrate Potens’ 30th Anniversary, we have decided to keep the ‘My Story’ theme running – with the aim to share stories from people who are supported and work across our wonderful organisation each week.

Here we meet Gill Farragher, who tells us about her journey with Potens spanning 29 years!

“My time with Potens spans a small 29 years! I began with a few days here and there cleaning and cooking, and those few days a week have given me a very rewarding career. I spent the first 10 years of my career working in 7-9 Park Road South – the first ever Potens service, eventually progressing to role of Deputy Manager.

In 1998 the company began to expand with the purchase of a 4-person residential home for residents from number 7-9 Park Road South to move into. In 2000 our 3rd Registered Home was being developed and when we opened in January 2001 I was asked to Manage our 2nd house, Balfour Road. A move that meant I could work again with the four people that we had supported to move on – I became the Registered Manager in 2002.

From Cook, Domestic, Registered Manager to Training Coordination and Contracts, I have undertaken several roles over the years, and after 29 years I can honestly say that I have enjoyed the various challenges presented.

I have met and worked with some wonderfully committed people over these years. I have very fond personal memories of Service Users and their own journeys after being given good quality care and the appropriate support.

Here’s to the next 30 years.”

Thanks Gill!
