Smile’s all round – fundraising success!

Service users at Potens’ The Barn residential service in Leyland, Lancashire, recently  held a fundraising day at their home to raise money for Make Them Smile, a charity supporting kids with a range of disabilities, terminal illness and life-long conditions.

The Barn is a residential service for people with Learning disabilities and Autism and at a recent empowerment meeting made the decision to support a good cause and organise a fundraising day in a bid for them to give something back to the community.

Manager Fiona Jones explains; “The people supported at the Barn have a group empowerment meeting or forum every two weeks. At a recent session they asked us to support them in organising and hosting a charity day at their service that family members and friends could come to.  The charity they choose was Make Them Smile.”

Make Them Smile is a national registered charity, which raises funds to help children under the age of 18 years with a wide range of adverse medical conditions, including leukaemia, cerebral palsy, and other life threatening conditions.  The charity’s teams provide grants to help as many children and their families as possible, ranging from day trips, medical equipment, respite and hospital travel.
Fantastic day!

“The individuals used their support to shop and bake in preparation for the day.  They also organised games including: guess the amount of sweets; guess the weight of the cake; guess how many chocolate chips is in the cupcakes and a fantastic tombola.” Fiona adds.

The day was a huge success with £167.72 being raised for the fantastic charity.

Well done to the Individuals at The barn – what an achievement!
